Puss Caterpillar or Asp (Megalopyge opercularis)

Brown and furry
Caterpillar in a hurry
Take your walk
To the shady leaf or stalk.
May no toad spy you,
May the little birds pass by you,
Spin and die,
To live again a butterfly.
Christina Rosetti
*Very Poisonous.
Puss caterpillars are larvae of the southern flannel moth.

Amazing! I'd love to see what the resulting butterfly looks like. Is it furry too?

You know, I'm not much for bugs of any kind, but I kinda want to pick this guy up and give him pets. ! Never seen the like! How cool.

Love your site, by the way. I'll be back! :)

I just found one of these caterpillars today! Actually picked it up and let it crawl on my hand to show my kids. Later, googled it and found out it is very poisonous!!! Not sure how I managed to NOT get stung! Sure is a cute thing! Like a teddy bear!
