Acorns can be eaten, though often bitter. Boil shelled kernels (to get rid of the tannin) for 15 minutes, pour off water, add fresh water, boil 15 minutes more. Do this until the water is no longer brown. Roast the nuts at 300 degrees F for 1hour. Chop up and eat.
Nut-bearing pines are edible, too. Roast or eat them raw; crush the outer shell.
