Nature Trivia-Clouds

Clouds were first categorized by Luke Howard in 1803. The three basic groups:

Cirrus is Latin for 'lock of hair.'
Cumulus means 'heap.'
Stratus means 'spread out.'

Today we also use:
Alto, meaning 'high' and Nimbus, meaning 'dark rain cloud.'

These terms are used in various combinations to cover ten basic cloud formations.
